okay but anyways so this is Dubhe and Alioth. They’re fraternal twins of 29 years! Dubhe’s the bigger thinker of the two while Alioth does more of the working and whatnot, but they’re both scientists. Dubhe’s a medical scientist and Alioth is a chemist. They work together quite a bit to help each other out, though, and a lot of people get their professions mixed up. In fact, most people get their everything mixed up because they’re so close and act so similar to the other. However, Dubhe and Alioth are not themselves. They’re each other.
Dubhe was born under the name Alioth, and Alioth was born under the name Dubhe. Dubhe was, at one point, called a girl, and Alioth was at one point called a boy. The two, even at very young ages, never felt they were in the right shoes, though. They always felt something was wrong about them, and one day, when they were about 7 years old or so, they decided to swap names for a day, and no one could really tell the difference, so they went along with it and continued to be the other gendered twin for a few days. After that, it became a natural habit, and, when they discussed it again a few years later, they decided to just keep it that way. Because they’re some of the older Beta children, the younger ones didn’t really know they’re switched, for one, because they act so similarly to the other, and for another they were all just too young to remember them being their original names.
They still face the sexism just as any other person would. Alioth is picked on and pushed around and abused for being a girl and Dubhe is expected to treat the women like they’re shit, so when Alioth stands up for herself and Dubhe stands up for the women, they’re looked down upon. They’re social outcasts, according to the Alpha People, but the other Betas like them and are unaware of the switch they did as kids. Even if they were aware, it probably would bother near none of the Betas.

their descriptions are by em. theyre just people who live in the town where light never touches. its essentially a place for rejects, and sandra keeps a close eye over it, but never actually lets her presence be known till Carmen’s sent to bring light and happiness and warmth to the town.
